N.C. county approved for HUD’s Good Neighbor Next Door Program
Guilford County, N.C., emergency medical technicians, firefighters, law enforcement officers and teachers will be receiving home-buying assistance through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) Good Neighbor Next Door Program. The Good Neighbor program aims to promote community revitalization by encouraging workers in those professions to become involved where they live.
Through the program, HUD will offer a 50 percent discount on foreclosed property in certain areas of the county to qualified buyers. “With an average of 100 HUD foreclosures per year in our area, this program represents a significant opportunity for eligible home buyers,” says Andy Scott, director of the Greensboro, N.C., Housing and Community Development Department that serves Guilford County.
