Online tool helps fleets calculate carbon emissions
The San Francisco-based Sierra Club and Northbrook, Ill.-based Donlen Corp. have developed an online tool for monitoring the carbon emissions from municipal and county fleets. “Donlen’s Carbon Calculator” helps fleet managers compare vehicles’ emissions rates and determine the financial impact of a fleet’s carbon output.
The tool is designed to help local governments “transform their vehicle fleets into greenfleets,” says Glen Brand, director of the Sierra Club’s Cool Cities campaign. “Greenfleets are an important and practical strategy to reducing energy costs, global warming pollution and our country’s dependence on fossil fuels,” Brand said in a statement.
The Cool Cities campaign aims to encourage cities to implement clean energy programs that include making energy efficiency upgrades to buildings and using alternative fueled or hybrid vehicles and renewable power. Donlen’s Carbon Calculator is available at www.coolfleet.com.
