Incoming NGA chairman announces clean energy initiative
Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty assumed the chairmanship of the Washington-based National Governors Association (NGA) during its annual meeting in July, and one of his first acts was to announce a new initiative titled “Securing a Clean Energy Future.” The initiative will address ways in which states and governors can increase the production of cleaner domestic fuels, accelerate research into clean energy technology and improve energy efficiency.
In his remarks at the annual meeting, Pawlenty said the nation is at a “tipping point” regarding energy production. “Our country is too dependent on imported sources of energy, and greenhouse gas emissions continue to grow too quickly,” Pawlenty said. Pawlenty also unveiled the new NGA logo and a centennial Web site in celebration of the association’s 100th anniversary.
