The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is challenging states to recruit drinking water utilities to become members of the WaterSense water conservation program. The state that recruits the most new members will receive EPA assistance in creating a media outreach campaign, including a media tour, a consumer education campaign, and social marketing training for the utilities that join the program. WaterSense provides public education material on conserving water, and soon will begin certifying and labeling water-conserving products. Information on the State Challenge will be available at www.epa.gov/watersense after the first week of June.
