Surrender your weapons
This photo, submitted by Bonnie Winchester, public information officer for the New Haven, Conn., Police Department, shows some of the 88 guns the department collected during a two-week gun buy back program in December. Through the program, police recovered 48 revolvers, 27 semi-automatic pistols, five rifles, three shotguns, two sawed-off shotguns, two sawed-off rifles and one assault weapon. For each gun that a New Haven resident dropped off at police headquarters, he or she was given a choice of a $100 gift card from Shaw’s Supermarkets, Wal-Mart, Walgreens or Stop & Shop. Including the weapons collected in December, New Haven police recovered 310 guns from residents in 2006.
