Who is coaching Johnny’s sports team?
The Ashburn, Va.-based National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) has launched a program to help park districts and youth sports leagues weed out potential volunteer coaches with criminal histories. “Operation TLC2: Making Communities Safe” includes national criminal background checks for volunteers, photo ID badges for approved coaches and a training video for new and veteran coaches. So far, 30 communities have signed up for the program, which costs $995 annually. Three companies are working with NRPA to provide the program services: Duluth, Ga.-based TSS Photography; Columbus, Ohio-based DMP Consulting; and Marietta, Ga.-based Southeastern Security Consultants. The background checks, photo ID badge and training session take approximately 10 days to complete. For more information, visit www.nrpa.org/tlc2 or call (703) 858-2162.
