Ultrasonic Device Deters Teenagers From Loitering

According to the company, the device emits an ultrasonic signal that can only be heard by teens. Although the signal is not painful, its high-frequency tone irritates teenagers into leaving the area, within 10 minutes after hearing the sound. During product testing, individuals over 25 years of age were generally un-affected by the signal, due to natural hearing loss at the high-frequency range. Testing also showed that small children and dogs were not bothered by the sound. Although teens are aggravated by the signal, studies show that the sound will not cause long-term hearing loss.
