The water is on again for the Lower Owens River, a century after Los Angeles agents used deception to divert the river to the nascent metropolis’ new aqueduct. As part of a plan mandated by a lawsuit against the city’s Department of Water and Power, officials are diverting millions of gallons of water from the aqueduct into the river, hoping to restore life to the dry valley, according to the Los Angeles Times.
