On Tuesday, the New York City Council approved a ban on most trans fats, and other cities may soon follow their lead. All of the city’s restaurants will be required to greatly reduce the amount of trans fats, which have been linked to heart disease, in the food they serve beginning in July, according to The New York Times. The head of the California Center for Public Health Advocacy says New York has “set a national standard,” and Chicago is considering its own trans fat ban. However, many restaurant owners say trans fat-free products are in short supply and are expensive.
