Dallas officials worry that the city’s efforts to conserve its water supply may make it the target of state legislation aimed at easing shortages in less-prepared cities. New laws may force the city to share its reserves or reduce its recycling efforts to increase the flow of the Trinity River, or require residents to pay a water tax, according to the Dallas Morning News. Lawmakers say something has to be done, but it won’t be as bad as Dallas’ leaders fear.
