Residents of Gaithersburg, Md., are deeply split over a proposed ordinance that would require developers to provide affordable housing. The ordinance would require that 7.5 percent of owner-occupied homes and 15 percent of rental units in a development be priced for moderate-income residents, according to the Washington Post. Some residents say the ordinance is necessary to help hard-working, moderate-income families, while others say it encourages more slums.
