The Clayton County, Ga., Commission wants a say in negotiations between the county’s sheriff and the sheriff of neighboring Fulton County over a planned transfer of Fulton County inmates to Clayton County’s jail. Commission Chairman Eldrin Bell says the county has had complaints from residents about the inmate transfer, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Jail administrators say they will handle the negotiations and that Fulton County would pay $4 million a year and provide the staffing to guard 192 inmates that it would send to fill an empty unit at the Clayton County jail.
