Los Angeles is adopting its crime-fighting CompStat program to help make the city’s schools safe. The program, designed by the New York Police Department several years ago, uses daily crime statistics to track trouble spots around the city, according to the Los Angeles Times. Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa wants to apply the same technique to find high-crime areas around schools and is modeling his initiative on a similar CompStat variation in New York.
