In summing up the results of his “100-day initiative plan” to rebuild New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina, Mayor Ray Nagin and his advisers say progress is being made. Nagin initiated the plan after beginning his second term on June 1, forming a series of committees to address issues like criminal justice and trash pickup, according to the Times Picayune. Nagin says debris pickup is more regular, and water pressure has returned to pre-Katrina levels. He says the city will form a “recovery department” within two months.
