The owner of 131-acres of prime farmland near San Luis Obispo, Calif., wants to surround a proposed shopping center on his property with environmentally friendly projects. Property owner Ernie Dalidio says he plans to build an organic farm, a natural habitat for viewing monarch butterflies and more to compliment the shopping mall he also wants to build there, according to the Los Angeles Times. Opponents accuse Dalidio of “greenwashing” his proposal to earn support before it reaches voters in November, saying the land should still be used for farming.
