An icon for the City of Brotherly Love
Jill Jacobus, administrative director for the International Visitors Council of Philadelphia, submitted this photo of LOVE Park, built in the 1960s as JFK plaza. Its curving stairs and fountain were designed to create an impressive setting for City Hall. The park became a skateboarding mecca and helped redefine the city’s image and attraction for youth, however, they have been banned from the park in recent years. The LOVE sculpture has become a popular destination for tourists as well as for local business people, who often can be found enjoying lunch nearby. Late, on a clear night, it takes on another appeal, with the fountain and the city lights reflecting through the mist.
