New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin says his city is better prepared for a storm today than it was a year ago when Hurricane Katrina struck. In an interview on MSNBC’s “Meet the Press,” Nagin said the city now plans to evacuate residents as quickly as possible rather than trying to house them there, according to the Times-Picayune. Nagin also expressed some regret for a statement he made last week on CBS’s “60 Minutes” in which, in response to questions about why post-Katrina repair efforts were slow, Nagin said the people in New York couldn’t repair “a hole in the ground” five years after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
