An Atlanta advocate for the homeless is challenging numbers from the U.S. Interagency Council on Homelessness that show the city is making progress in addressing the problem. A report from the council showed that homelessness in the city fell 6.2 percent, and in defending the report the council’s executive director Philip Mangano credits Atlanta’s 10-year plan to end homelessness, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Anita Beaty, executive director of the Metro Atlanta Task Force for the Homeless, says that council volunteers charged with counting the homeless for the report skipped some parts of the city that were considered too dangerous.
