Officials in Yonkers are planning to tear down one of the country’s first public housing developments, but they also plan to have it rebuilt by 2010. The 480 families living in Mulford Gardens will have to move out during the demolition and rebuilding, but about 60 percent plan to return when the 469 new apartments, townhouses and row houses are finished, according to The New York Times. A federal grant from the Hope VI program is funding the $150 million project.
