The conviction of Chicago Mayor Richard Daley’s former patronage chief and three others on federal corruption charges could be only the beginning of the investigation into Daley’s administration, federal prosecutors say. On Thursday a federal jury found Sorich and two of the other defendants guilty of mail fraud in connection with providing jobs to political supporters of the mayor, according to the Chicago Tribune. The fourth defendant was convicted of lying to federal agents. Attorneys for three of the men promise to appeal the verdict, and Sorich’s attorney says the only reason for the criminal prosecution is to affect Daley’s possible bid for reelection next year.
