Public-safety vehicle drives fleet of applications for Homeland Security
Contender, a new Special Services Vehicle (SSV), caters to firefighters, law-enforcement officers, rescue teams, and other first responders. Can be tailored to accept equipment for mobile communications, incident command, SWAT (special weapons and tactics) teams, explosive ordnance disposal, or bomb response. Also serves as a mobile laboratory. Body consists of corrosion-resistant aluminum, with 2- by 2-in. wall studs joined to vehicles roof supports for added crash resistance. Available in 14- or 18-ft. lengths. Each model runs on 300-hp. engine.
