With two weeks to go before the 2006 hurricane season, local governments in South Florida are taking steps based on last year’s experiences with Hurricanes Katrina and Wilma. One city turned its stoplights horizontal to resist the wind, while another has set up a fuel depot powered by backup generators for city vehicles, according to The Miami Herald.
