Xray Of Revelers Hailed A Success
Police in Liverpool, England, are using a mobile, airport-style X-ray machine to search city partygoers for drugs and weapons. Recently, the X-ray machine was set up outside a bar in an area of the city known as a heavy drinking spot.
Police officers from the anti-gun unit monitored the crowd for suspicious people. Anyone deemed suspicious was given the choice of walking through the X-ray machine or submitting to a pat-down body search.
Police stopped and searched a total of 80 people across the city on Friday and Saturday nights, and 25 of those people went through the X-ray machine. Officers used the X-ray machine to make 10 arrests, including nine people who were carrying drugs and one man who had a baseball bat.
The X-ray machine and searches are “a useful deterrent in preventing those individuals with an intent to cause violence from bringing weapons into the city center,” said one police official. The X-ray machine will be used on a regular basis throughout the city on weekends.
