EXTRA, EXTRA/An office you have to see to believe
Last month, York County, Va., completed its first Virtual Shell Building, a computer model of a facility that the Economic Development Authority is marketing to businesses. The 162,000-square-foot building was designed for a 23-acre site in an existing office park specifically with the plastics industry in mind. Electricity, natural gas, public water, public sewer, telephone and fiber optics already are on site, and the county already has completed all environmental and archaeological work, identified and permitted wetlands areas, and designed and approved stormwater retention basins. “With all the preliminary work completed, building construction can move quickly, and the business could open its doors soon thereafter,” says Jim Noel, economic development director for the county.
