A bill that would create a flat 5 percent tax statewide on telecommunications services and would impose taxes on satellite television, Internet phone service and long-distance phone service passed the Virginia House of Delegates Finance Committee Monday. According to the Washington Post, the statewide tax would eliminate taxes imposed by each locality and would eliminate cable franchising fees. The bill is expected to go to the full House this week, and it must pass the Senate and be signed by the governor to become law. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/01/23/AR2006012300748.html
