The Los Angeles City Council unanimously voted on Wednesday to stop an $11 billion plan to modernize Los Angeles International Airport. Neighboring jurisdictions had opposed the plan because of its potential effect on noise, air pollution and traffic. According to The Associated Press, Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa is expected to propose a new $4 billion plan that calls for a new terminal, new gates to accommodate the Airbus A-380 and a cap on the number of gates to limit the airport’s capacity. http://www.cnn.com/2006/TRAVEL/01/19/airport.modernization.ap/index.html
