New York Recycles Used Printers to Reap Savings
By participating in a trade-in program, the New York State Office of Mental Health (OMH) promoted the recycling and reuse of more than 800 Hewlett-Packard (HP) LaserJet printers. OMH received vouchers for each returned printer, which were then applied toward the purchase price of new printers. As a result, the state saved more than $13,500, while keeping more than 19,000 pounds of electronic waste out of landfills.
To save staff time, the OMH partnered with CDW Government, Inc. (CDW-G), which teamed up with a companion service provider to pick up the aging printers from office locations around the state, inventory the items to determine estimated rebate amounts, and return the printers through HP’s trade-in offer.
