Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper wants to speed up the city’s new recycling program by delivering all 70,000 new recycling carts by the end of 2006, cutting more than two years off the original phase-in plan. According to the Rocky Mountain News, the city expects to save money with the program — which is free for residents — by diverting waste from landfills, profiting from recyclables and reducing the route time of recycling workers.
