Cities Ranked For Vehicle Theft
Vehicle theft rates and rankings for Metropolitan Statistical Areas (MSAs) in the United States from 2002 through 2004 have been released by the National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB).
MSAs are major metropolitan areas established by the Office of Management and Budget that represent not only cities and adjacent metropolitan regions, but also border areas. In some cases an MSA may be comprised of cities in two different states but will only be reported in the data for one of those states.
Numbers used in the rankings are defined as to:
* Thefts: Number of vehicles stolen in a particular year as reported to the National Crime Information Center (NCIC).
* Rank: How vehicle theft rate compares nationally in 2002, 2003 and 2004.
* Rate: The number of vehicle thefts reported per 100,000 population.
The NICB is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to fighting insurance fraud and theft for the benefit of its customers and the public through information analysis, forecasting, criminal investigation support, training and public awareness. The NICB is supported by approximately 1,000 property/casualty insurance companies.
