The San Francisco Bay Area’s 511 TravInfo system has received a Global Road Achievement Award in the Traffic Management and Intelligent Transportation category from the Washington-based International Road Federation. The system was developed and operated by New York-based PB Farradyne.
New Hanover County, N.C., has received an Achievement Award from the Washington-based National Association of Counties for a system that relies on wetlands to treat 60,000 gallons of leachate each day. Cambridge, Mass.-based CDM provided permitting support, design and construction oversight.
Nashville, Tenn.’s Gateway Boulevard Bridge has received the top award in the Major Span category in the Chicago-based National Steel Bridge Alliance‘s Prize Bridge Competition. The bridge was designed by Kansas City, Mo.-based HNTB and completed in May 2004.
Citrus Heights, Calif.; Telluride, Colo.; and the Alameda County, Calif., Waste Management Authority have won first place awards in the Washington-based City-County Communications and Marketing Association‘s annual competition for their Web sites, designed by Santa Monica, Calif.-based Vision Internet.

Dakota County, Minn., has contracted with Minneapolis-based KKE Architects to conduct a master plan study of the county’s judicial space needs.
The Sports & Exhibition Authority of Pittsburgh and Allegheny County has contracted with New York-based Vollmer Associates to provide construction inspection services for the North Shore Carnegie Science Connector Park. The $2 million park connects the Pittsburgh Steeler’s Stadium, Heinz Field and the Carnegie Science Center along the Ohio River.
Sarasota County, Fla., has contracted with North Springfield, Vt.-based Dufresne-Henry to design a sheltered bus stop and more than three miles of new 5-foot-wide sidewalks for two county neighborhoods.
The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority has contracted with New York-based Parsons Brinckerhoff, locally based Parsons Transportation Group and locally based Delon Hampton & Associates to provide on-call general architectural and engineering services for the authority’s capital program. Task orders might include planning for new bus and rail facilities and services, as well as for transit-oriented development at stations.

Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority has purchased 190 trash receptacles valued at $735,000 from Tampa-based BlastGard.
The Merrill, Wis., Police Department has contracted with Castle Hayne, N.C.-based VisionAIR to provide software for computer-aided dispatch, law enforcement records management and master name historical summary. The software will allow the city to share records more easily with Lincoln County, Wis., which also uses the software.
New Jersey has contracted with Guilford, Conn.-based Defibtech to provide 1,682 automated external defibrillators for statewide deployment in police cars.
The Houston Galveston Area Council has contracted with Columbus, Ohio-based Battelle to provide homeland security and emergency consulting, planning and related services to its members.
Morrow County, Ohio, has contracted with Columbus, Ohio-based Digital Data Technologies to provide E9-1-1 and mobile GIS software for the county’s emergency response operations, including the public safety answering point. The county also purchased software that creates atmospheric dispersion models for hazardous chemical vapor releases.
Getting there
Chicago has contracted with Indianapolis-based Traffic Signal Co. to provide a Quixote Traffic uninterruptible power supply system that will be a battery backup for approximately 800 new and existing traffic intersections.
The Coachella Valley, Calif., Association of Governments has retained Alpharetta, Ga.-based Mactec Engineering & Consulting to implement a pavement management system for each of the organization’s 10 member cities.
The Missouri Department of Transportation has contracted with St. Louis-based Horner & Shifrin to perform Fracture Critical Bridge Inspections for local public agencies in the state.
The Arizona Department of Transportation has contracted with New York-based Parsons Brinckerhoff to provide management consulting and design services for the development of two freeway corridors in the Phoenix area. The two corridors are part of the Phoenix metropolitan area’s 20-year, $16 billion multimodal regional transportation plan. The Denver Regional Transportation District has contracted with the company, along with Fort Worth, Texas-based Carter & Burgess, to manage the $4.7 billion FasTracks program.

The Tallahassee. Fla.-based Florida Association of Court Clerks and Comptrollers has contracted with Madison, Wis.-based Extract Systems to distribute automated redaction software to the state’s Clerks of the Court. The software will allow clerks to protect certain personal and financial information while still providing online access to public records.
The Tillamook People’s Utility District, an electric utility serving Tillamook County, Ore., has contracted with Fort Collins, Colo.-based Miner & Miner to provide software that will integrate its GIS with its work order management system.
Waukesha County, Wis., has contracted with Madison, Wis.-based GeoAnalytics to automate the publication of Waukesha’s digital parcel map and related data into the county’s geodatabase.
Los Angeles County has contracted with Glendale, Calif.-based TelSoft Solutions to implement a call accounting and tracking system in more than 125 county locations.
The California Employment Development Department has contracted with Official Payments, a subsidiary of Reston, Va.-based Tier Technologies, to process electronic employer payroll tax deposits.
