EXTRA, EXTRA/How lawyers can help during disasters
The roles that public sector attorneys play in catastrophic events often are overlooked. To help attorneys prepare for disasters, the Chicago-based American Bar Association, Section of State and Local Government Law, has produced a documentary-style DVD program entitled, “Are You Ready? What Lawyers Need to Know About Emergency Preparedness and Disaster Recovery.” The 70-minute video describes how public sector attorneys can help prepare their communities for the effects of disasters. It also encourages awareness of the available legal resources. The DVD is available from the Public Entity Risk Institute (www.riskinstitute.org) for $35 and comes with a coursebook.
