Chicago has installed 30 devices that recognize gunshots up to two blocks away, locate the source, turn a surveillance camera toward the area and then call 911. According to CNN.com, the system, known as Smart Sensor Enabled Neural Threat Recognition and Identification, is expected to complement video surveillance cameras, which have helped bring the city’s crime rate to its lowest level in 40 years.
