Bill Dumoulin, a pig farmer in Kane County, Ill., is striving to be a good neighbor to an influx of residents expected to arrive in the county over the next 25 years. According to the Chicago Tribune, although the population is expected to jump from 9,200 presently to 78,000 by 2030, the county’s long-range plan is to keep family farms intact. To deal with the smell of 25,000 pigs, Dumoulin has created a neutral-smelling compost from hog manure and landscape mulch. Chicago Tribune
