Many social service systems that work with traumatized children are not doing enough to assess and treat those children, the National Child Traumatic Stress Network reports. Its recent survey, “Helping Children in the Child Welfare System Heal From Trauma: A Systems Integration Approach,” includes findings from staff interviews at more than 50 child service agencies across the country and makes recommendations on how child service systems can improve their treatment of children with traumatic stress. The survey report advises child service agencies to ensure employees are trained to handle child trauma issues and to standardize their procedures. The report is available online in pdf format at www.NCTSNet.org.
