Getting there

The New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority has contracted with Long Beach, Calif.-based Earth Tech to provide on-call construction management consulting services for the Long Island Rail Road for five years.

San Bernardino County, Calif., has contracted with Atlanta-based Cingular to upgrade 1,600 roadside emergency call boxes from wireless analog to Global System for Mobile Communications wireless phone service.

Stockton, Calif., has contracted with New York-based Parsons Brinckerhoff to provide construction management services for improvements to State Route 99.

The North Carolina Turnpike Authority has contracted with Kansas City, Mo.-based HNTB to provide general engineering consulting services for two years. The company will help the agency plan, design, construct and operate up to three toll roads.

Miami-Dade, Fla., Transit has contracted with Kansas City, Mo.-based HNTB as the prime consultant for the $2.5 billion East-West Corridor rail project. The project will connect areas of western Miami-Dade County with the Miami International Airport, downtown Miami and the Port of Miami.

Plugged in

Lee’s Summit, Mo., has contracted with Madison, Wis.-based Varion Systems to implement software that will help manage and maintain the city’s water and pavement infrastructure. Robbinsdale, Minn., has contracted with the firm to provide permitting, licensing, and code enforcement software and to provide training, coaching and product support.

The Tallahassee-Leon County, Fla., Interlocal GIS Organization has contracted with Aurora, Colo.-based Merrick to provide aerial photography, create color digital orthophotography and update planimetric and topographic data.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg, N.C., Utilities has contracted with Denver-based Arcadis and St. Paul, Minn.-based EMA to provide GIS consulting and system data collection and conversion services as part of a pilot study.

Jacksonville, Fla., has contracted with Portage, Mich.-based Manatron to provide property tax software, implementation services and support.

Washington County, Colo.; Madison County, Miss.; and Flathead County, Mont.; have contracted with Snowmass Village Colo.-based Tracker Software to provide infrastructure financial, maintenance and operational software.

DeWitt County, Ill., has contracted with St. Charles, Ill.-based Sidwell to provide GIS services and Web hosting for the GIS data. Allen County, Ind., has contracted with the firm to host its GIS data Web site. Brown County, Ill., has contracted with the firm to develop a GIS parcel numbering system.

Coconino, Ariz., has contracted with Seattle-based InterLocking Software to provide permit and licensing systems.

Weld County and Fort Collins, Colo., have contracted with Dublin, Calif.-based Accela to provide Web-based communication software. Washington County, Md., has contracted with the firm to provide software for the Permits & Inspections Department that will allow employees to access data wirelessly.

Harford County, Md., Office of Economic Development has added a new page to its Web site that provides information about marketing resources available in the county for local businesses. The Web site includes speaking and sponsorship opportunities, advertising rate cards and editorial calendars for several regional publications.

Mesa, Ariz., has contracted with Cambridge, Mass.-based Syware for Visual CE software that will simplify building inspection operations and improve productivity, streamline inspections and assist inspectors in the field.

Safe at home

The Los Altos Hills County, Calif., Fire District has contracted with Pleasanton, Calif.-based Pakpour Consulting Group to conduct hydraulic modeling for the district’s $300,000 Chaparral Water Main Extension Project and identify locations for new fire hydrants.

Muskingum County, Ohio, has contracted with Columbus, Ohio-based DDTI to provide an emergency dispatch mapping system for the county’s communication center and public safety 9-1-1 dispatchers to aid in call response capabilities.

New Jersey has contracted with Los Angeles-based E Team to provide crisis management software to connect the state Police Office of Emergency Management with all 21 counties and state agencies, including the Department of Health and Senior Services, Department of Military and Veterans’ Affairs, Department of Environmental Protection, Department of Transportation, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, and the New Jersey National Guard.

The Los Angeles Police Department has contracted with Valencia, Calif.-based Delta Scientific to provide MP5000 High Security Mobile Barricade Systems to protect its historic downtown Parker Center headquarters during times of heightened homeland security threats.

And the winner is…

Palm Springs, Calif., and Houston-based Veolia Water have received the Outstanding Achievement Award in public-private partnerships from the Washington-based U.S. Conference of Mayors. Chicago and San Francisco-based URS also have received the award.

Brookfield, Wis.-based R.A. Smith, Kenosha County, Wis., and the Kenosha County Division of Highways have received the 2004 Innovation Award from the Madison, Wis.-based Wisconsin Asphalt Pavement Association.

Lititz, Pa., has received the 2004 Plant Operation and Maintenance Excellence Award from the Myerstown, Pa.-based Eastern Pennsylvania Water Pollution Control Operators Association.

The Northern Kentucky Sanitation District No. 1 has received the 2004 National Clean Water Act Recognition Award from the Washington-based U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Newington, N.H., also received a 2004 National Clean Water Act Operations Excellence Award for Region I from the agency.

St. Louis-based Horner & Shifrin has received an Honor Award from the Washington-based American Council of Engineering Companies.
