Winter Sports in Coralville
Winter Sports in Coralville. This week’s winner by Scott Larson, assistant city engineer for Coralville, Iowa, is of triumphant volunteer firefighter, Scott Jennings, whose team has just won a round in the city's Winter Water Fights, an annual January event now in its 30th year. The goal of the game is to shoot a suspended barrel with water from a fire hose to the opposing team’s side. This year, 140 men’s teams and 45 women’s teams from fire departments in at least four states competed for first, second and third place trophies, but all received the real prize: camaraderie. Though the crowds are bundled, the temperature was above freezing.
