EXTRA, EXTRA/Broward County, Fla., Web art tour
In September, the Broward County, Fla., Public Art and Design Program launched a Web-based tour of the county’s public art installations. The Web site includes links to photographs and information about 188 pieces of public art on display throughout the county. Visitors can find specific pieces by browsing through a county map; selecting a location, artist or medium; or scrolling through an alphabetical list of titles. The Public Art and Design Program is supported by 2 percent of the total new construction budget for county government facilities. The money is used to commission artists to provide design expertise for buildings and to create artworks that complement new public buildings.
