Fort Lauderdale, Fla., voters agreed in March 2000 that they wanted the city to buy the Old Hyde Park market site for $8 million and turn it into a city park. According to The Sun-Sentinel, however, the owners believed it was worth much more and wanted to build a high rise on the site.
