Congress passed a sixth temporary extension bill September 30 narrowly avoiding the closure of transportation programs scheduled to end that day. The passage of the bill extends federal funding through May 31, 2005, and is a good indication that the TEA-21 will not be reauthorized this year. According to the American Public Works Association, the measure authorizes $24.5 billion for the highway program and $5.2 billion for transit programs http://www.apwa.net/Advocacy/AdvocacyNews/index.asp?HotID=719&HotLocator=GOV
