Baltimore moves church to build new housing development
Baltimore is assembling land for its biggest housing development in decades by relocating a prominent church and clearing a vacant, low-income housing complex to create space for 1,100 new apartments, homes and condominiums. Plans call for the majority of the housing to be sold at market rates, with some expected to command prices of $400,000 or more, while some will be affordable. As one of the city’s largest and more influential congregations, the 7,000-member New Psalmist Baptist Church will move from its home to a city-owned parcel a couple of miles away from its current location and receive $16.5 million from the city for its trouble. http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/yahoo/bal-te.md.housing02sep02,0,2698639.story?coll=bal-newsaol-headlines
