Los Angeles County supervisors intend to add millions of dollars to the Sheriff’s Department, after two years of deep cuts to its budget. After losing about 1,200 deputies, closing two jails and releasing thousands of inmates early, the board finally says the sheriff has earned their confidence with a series of cost-cutting measures and deserves more money. Don Knabe, a supervisor, says he hopes the board will increase the sheriff’s budget by at least $35 million. The money for the increase will come from an unexpected surge in property tax revenue. http://www.latimes.com/news/yahoo/la-me-supes16jun16,1,7283707.story?coll=la-newsaol-headlines
