Free speech advocates are up in arms over officials breaking up a baptism at a local Richmond, Va., park. Claiming that the ceremony might be offensive to nearby swimmers at Falmouth Waterfront Park, city officials asked the Rev. Todd Pyle to leave the park after finishing the baptism. Supporters of Rev. Pyle say that prohibiting baptisms in the park is a violation of the First Amendment, but park officials say that religious groups seeking to perform services in the park need to apply for permits. The park’s board has formed a special committee to examine its policy. http://cnn.com/2004/US/South/06/02/baptism.ban.ap/index.html
