In Brunswick, Ga., under a new city law, the police have the power to halt protests during the Group of Eight summit, which will be held on nearby Sea Island June 8 – 10. The city council passed the law coincidentially after Governor Sonny Perdue declared a preemptive state of emergency in coastal Gerogia through June 20. The law allows authorities to stop lawful dissent without reason while President Bush meets with world leaders at Sea Island.
