MAINTENANCE MANAGER
Metropolitan Park District of the Toledo Area
The Maintenance Manager is responsible for managing and supervising all maintenance staff and maintenance services for the Park District.
A Bachelor’s degree in Parks & Recreation services, Wildlife Management or Industrial Hygiene or related education is required. Must have at least five years supervisory experience in maintenance management, have their 10-hour OSHA certification and be able to obtain the 30-hour OSHA certificate within and agreed upon time frame.
Develops maintenance services within the strategic objectives of the Park District. Oversees all maintenance scheduling, budgeting, training, policy directives, safety and other aspects of the Maintenance Department. The Maintenance Manager also represents the Metroparks with outside professional business, civic organizations and other governmental agencies.
This is an exempt position with an entry-level salary beginning at $52,000 per year, excellent paid benefits and inclusion in the Public Employees Retirement Law Enforcement System.

POSITION DESCRIPTION for MAINTENANCE MANAGER
POSITION GOAL: Manage and supervise service staff and contractors for the Park District.
CLASSIFICATION: Salaried Ð FLSA Exempt Ð Regular Ð Full Time
COMPENSATION: Pay Grade J

MINIMUM POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Parks and Recreation services, Natural Resources, Wildlife Management, Industrial Hygiene or related education (may include life experience credit) and five years supervisory experience. Must be OSHA 10 hour certified and must attain the OSHA 30 hour certification within an agreed upon time frame.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Demonstrated record of promoting innovation and leading change.
- Thorough, demonstrated knowledge of procedures, techniques and best practices (TPM/5S) in maintenance of facilities/equipment in park operations and public service work.
- Demonstrated effective utilization of the Performance Management process.
- Statistical data collection and reporting skills.
- Demonstrated knowledge of project and land management skills, techniques and technological aids in planning and implementing capital and major maintenance projects.
- Thorough understanding of PERRP and OSHA compliance requirements. Prepares annual 300 report.
- Demonstrated skills with blueprints, contracts and quantifying budgetary/human resources in determining project.
- Implementation via contractors or staff abilities and merging the same with due dates and routine maintenance needs.
- Demonstrated effective fiscal management.
- Documented training in effective supervision techniques.
- Ability to administer CPR and first aid, effective eyesight and audio abilities.
- Demonstrated communications skills, and involvement in diverse social, cultural, economic and educational situations.
- Demonstrated commitment to in-service training, quality management, record keeping, public presentation skills and interpersonal and interagency communications.
- Demonstrated commitment to staff development and self-improvement to enhance and facilitate the DistrictÕs Mission Statement and Operating Principles.
- Maintains memberships, networks and is actively involved in training and personal growth through recognized professional organizations and conferences.
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements: Workweek schedule includes evenings, weekends and holidays.
Required to: pass fitness for duty testing including drug screening, vision testing meeting 20/40 baseline or correctable, background investigation, psychological and aptitude testing and must possess and maintain a valid driverÕs license.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Reviews, approves and evaluates work assignments and schedules of employees within the Operations Division for effective visitor, employee and volunteer safety.
- Reviews and approves field reports and prepares annual report of activity in the areas of capital improvement and major maintenance status.
- Assists in the investigation of incidents involving injuries and damage on park property or to District property and employees in the performance of their duties.
- Manages technological advancements within the Division: communications, data acquisition and dissemination and inventories of equipment, supplies and resources.
- Manages Division budget.
- Collects and analyzes data; budget requests and expenditures; activity reports assuring compliance with the DistrictÕs policies
- Recruits, interviews and recommends candidates for positions.
- Studies, designs and implements safety plans for the protection of visitors, employees and volunteers.
- Collects and analyzes data on equipment acquisition, performance and maintenance. Analyzes and adjusts staffing requirements for the effective delivery of services.
- Coordinates the delivery of services with Ranger Division, environmental, cultural, historical, natural resources and volunteer services.
- Works with the Volunteer Manager to enhance the Volunteer program and effectively use those resources to enhance projects and site amenities.
- Coordinates safety issues with the Planning and Engineering department.
- Implements the DistrictÕs mission, strategic plan and operating principles to promote the success of the organization
- Actively participates in District safety and wellness programs.
- Actively participates in DistrictÕs innovation program.
- Other Park duties as assigned.
EQUIPMENT USED: Service and utility vehicles, mowers, tractors, power and hand tools, trailers, backhoes, skid steers, safety equipment, welding and cutting torches, survey equipment and building levels, blueprints, communication devices, computers, project planning software, mobile Wi-FI devices, GPS devices and other mapping tools, testing equipment, presentation devices, educational and training programs, AEDs; specialty items as needed.
