Howard Dean won Washington, D.C.’s largely symbolic Democratic presidential primary on Tuesday. According to The Washington Post, the primary “for many participants was more about protesting the city’s lack of congressional representation than electing the next president.” The city scheduled the primary before the Iowa caucus and the New Hampshire primary to bring attention to its push for congressional representation, according to the paper. “[T]he balloting had no direct effect on the city’s allocation of delegates to the Democratic National Convention; they will be selected in party caucuses in February and March,” the paper adds.
