Director of Public Works
City of Wichita, Kansas is seeking a Director of Public Works. Wichita is the largest city in Kansas with a population of 358,000. The Public Works Department has approximately 415 employees who make up the divisions of Engineering, Fleet, Buildings, Maintenance, Storm Water Management and a budget of about $52 million with an additional $115 million Capital Project Budget. This position reports directly to the City Manager. The successful candidate will possess considerable knowledge of the issues involved in planning, implementing, and financing Public Works projects. A thorough knowledge of standards, regulations and grants governing the work of the Department is also desired. Requirements for this position are: graduation from an Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited university with a degree in public administration, business administration or civil engineering with registration as a PE in the State of Kansas, or attainment of such registration within one year of appointment if registered as a PE in another state, plus six years of experience in responsible administrative and supervisory work.
