Nearly one month after police discovered a FBI bug in his office, Philadelphia Mayor John Street easily won re-election Tuesday night. According to the Associated Press (AP), Street, a Democrat, had 259,298 votes, or 58 percent, with 97 percent of precincts reporting; Sam Katz, a Republican, had 183,162 votes, or 41 percent. The race was closed when the FBI bug was discovered, but when Philadelphia residents “found their powerful, sometimes arrogant leaders on the ropes … they reacted as they often do when someone looks down and out: They rooted for him,” the AP wrote.
