Boston is gearing up to host next summer’s Democratic National Convention. According to the Boston Herald, the city will spend about $25 million over the next nine months to repair roads and sidewalks in downtown and surrounding neighborhoods. The repairs are one component of a larger beautification project, the details of which Mayor Thomas Menino will announce later this week. The roads and sidewalk project is the city’s largest street improvement program since 2000, the paper reports. For more information, visit
