Printing errors apparently will keep a proposal to eliminate the Tacoma, Wash., city manager position and replace it with a strong-mayor system off the November ballots. According to The Associated Press, the grass-roots group circulating the petitions for the initiative mistakenly printed them in two different forms. Neither of the forms was signed by the required number of registered voters. Supporters of the proposal have been urging the Tacoma City Council to place the initiative on the ballots despite the snafu, but Mayor Bill Baarsma told The Associated Press that the council apparently has no intention of doing so.
