County programs aim to ease jail overcrowding
Marion County, Ind., is introducing three community corrections programs this month aimed at easing overcrowding at its jail and providing options to serving time in jail for nonviolent offenders. According to The Indianapolis Star, a home incarceration program will be open to 100 participants, who will not be allowed to work and may leave their homes only for medical appointments or religious services. A home detention with curfew program will be open to 150 participants, who will be monitored electronically and must be home by a certain time each night. An independent residential program will be open to 20 participants who will live in a residence hall and will have privileges such as overnight visitors and a less-regimented schedule than work-release. The costs of the programs will be covered by fees paid by participants. For the complete story, visit http://www.indystar.com/print/articles/3/062932-5683-009.html.
